Mary Treasured These Things

Ho ho ho! Now, with all the excitement of our story — the angels, the shepherds, the wise men, the star, the gifts, the fleeing and the returning — Santa wants to slow down for just a moment and talk about somebody who watched it all happen. Quietly. From up close. Young Mary, the mother.

Think about everything this young woman had been through. An angel appeared and told her she'd have a very special son. She traveled seventy hard miles while expecting a baby. She gave birth in a stable and laid her newborn in a feeding trough. Then a band of rough shepherds came rushing in, breathless, talking about a sky full of singing angels. Later, grand wise men from far-off lands knelt on her floor and laid treasures before her child.

Now that, my friends, is an awful lot to take in. That would be a lot for anyone! And the Good Book tells us something simple and lovely about how Mary handled it all. It says, "Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."

I just love that. She treasured them. She pondered them. She didn't rush past these wonders. She didn't get so busy and frazzled with all the commotion that she forgot to notice what was happening. No — she gathered up every astonishing moment, every word, every wonder, and she held it close, turning it over in her heart, quietly treasuring it all.

There's real wisdom in that, my friends. We live in such a hurried world, don't we? Always rushing, always busy, always on to the next thing before we've even finished the last. And it's so very easy to let the precious moments whip right past us without ever stopping to truly take them in.

But Mary teaches us something better. She teaches us to pause. To notice. To hold the good moments close and really treasure them. Because some moments, my friends, are too precious to rush through.

And here's a thought for your own Christmas. This season is absolutely full of treasure-worthy moments, if only we slow down enough to see them. The sound of children laughing. The warm glow of the lights on the tree. A hug from someone you love. A quiet cup of cocoa on a cold night. The faces gathered round the table. These are your manger moments, my friends — small, ordinary wonders worth tucking away in your heart, just as Mary did.

Old Santa zips around the whole world in a single night, so believe me, I know all about being in a hurry! But even I make sure to pause and treasure the magic of Christmas Eve — the sleeping houses, the silent snow, the wonder of it all.

So this Christmas, take a page from Mary's book. Don't let the season blur past in a rush. Slow down. Look around. And treasure these things, and ponder them in your heart. You'll be so glad you did.

Merry Christmas, everyone! Ho ho ho! https://santaclaus.top/mary-treasured-these-things/
